9:16 safe zones for Shorts, TikTok, and Reels

Where to put text on a vertical short so Shorts, TikTok, and Reels buttons and captions do not cover it. Free studio overlay included.

Updated 2026-10-07

The edges are not yours

A 9:16 frame looks empty in an editor and crowded in the app. TikTok, Reels, and Shorts put buttons on the right, a caption on the bottom, and a header on the top. If your title sits in those bands, the viewer never reads it.

In the ShortsToAll studio the preview shades those bands. The top, the right edge, and the bottom quarter match the phone chrome. New titles land in the clear middle, left of the buttons. You can still drag them.

Burned-in text versus the post caption

The bottom of the video is where the platform caption already lives. A second paragraph burned into that area fights it. Use the bottom for the picture. Use the middle for a short on-screen line. Use the workspace field for the longer caption.

This is part of short-form video mastery and it costs nothing. Open the studio on the coffee sample and you will see the bands before you export.

Crop is manual

Drag the picture inside the frame if a face or a product is sitting under the buttons. That crop is written into the exported MP4. Face-tracked crop is not in this free version. You choose the frame.

Cross-post the short for free

One 9:16 file, a caption for each network, and a schedule if you want it later. Creating, editing, and the publish workspace are free.
